Shivapuri Nagi Gumba Hike

Trip Overview

Shivapuri Nagi Gumba Hike is a short one day hike near to Kathmandu. The hike walks you through Budanilkantha and Shivapuri national park for about an hour. However, you need to drive to the bottom of Shivapuri National park for about forty minutes and start trekking. Nagi Gumba is the Buddhist monastery on the top-hill offering you the wide view of Kathmandu City and occasional Langtang Himalayas view.

Hiking to  Shivapuri Nagi Gumba is a mild hike best with friends and family to get off from hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. It starts right off the Budanilkantha Temple. 7 Am in the morning, we are going to drive to Budanilkantha. On reaching Budanilkantha, the starting point of the trek and also famous for the Narayanthan temple and large reclining statue of Lord Vishnu we will spend a couple of minutes for trek preparation. Legends have said that King Pratap Malla had a vision which made him believe that Kings of Nepal would die if they visit Budanilkantha. Though non-Hindus are not allowed to go inside the temple, the temple gives the religious vibe around.

After that, we get ready with our tickets for Shivapuri National Park, we start our 2.5-3 hour Shivapuri Nagi Gumba hike to reach 4 kilometres uphill Nagi Gumba, a Buddhist monastery. The Shivapuri National Park boasts a wide variety of flora and fauna and an amazing trail for bird watching. After reaching the uphill and strolling for 30 minutes or so, we have to descend downhill for approximately an hour. It takes more than 1 hour who walks slowly it depends on your speed.

Why is Shivapuri Nagi Gumba hike well to go?

This trek is short trek near the Kathmandu valley and anyone with good health condition regardless of age and gender can do this trek. Not only that, but this trek is also the mild trek and you can do it in ample amount of time hence, it is good to go if you have less time in Nepal but still you want to do some hiking.

If you have enough time in Nepal, you can go for some trekking like Ghorepani Poonhill trek, Khopra Ridge Trek or Panch Pokhari Trek. Likewise, if you wish to see the Himalayas with no trekking involved then Kuri village Kalinchowk tour package is well to go since you can go atop 4,000 meters to see the Himalayas without any trekking.
