The government’s decision to grant more flights to and from major labor destination countries is expected to provide much-needed relief for numerous Nepali migrant workers stuck at home and abroad.
Reflecting upon the recommendations of the Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) to gradually lift international travel restrictions, the government has decided to continue flights with six countries—Qatar, the United Arab Emirates(UAE), Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Japan, and Turkey.
Not only those six destinations country, but flights will slowly resume to more countries in coming weeks. Although it’s still not confirmed 100 percent of flights will be open immediately. However, a limited number of flights for most of the countries will be allowed shortly.
More flights will be included to Qatar, India, China, and Turkey—countries where the government has already granted a limited number of regular flights. Meanwhile, flights will resume to Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Japan, and Thailand, among other countries.
With the restoration of international flights, it is expected that Nepali migrant workers will get some aid as they will be able to travel for jobs. Many migrant workers stuck in various countries due to travel restrictions will also be able to return home to their families.
Since the stoppage of international flights from May 7, due to the rising coronavirus cases in the world, many Nepali migrants have been suffering in various labor destinations, mainly in the Persian Gulf countries and Malaysia. Migrant workers who had already bought their tickets to return home after the completion of their work contracts were affected mostly by the suspension of flights.
